At the very beginning of 2013, producers Just Blaze and Baauer collaborated on a track that even at that early stage had the possibility of being the banger of the year. The track, Higher, features a prominent Jay-Z sample on it and has warbling bass and ear-shattering synths throughout which simply cannot be listened to at a low volume. Now the track has a short film directed by Nabil Elderkin, whose extensive music videography includes frequent collaborations with Frank Ocean (Pyramids, Swim Good, Novacane), Kanye West (Mercy, Coldest Winter, Welcome to Heartbreak, Paranoid) and James Blake (Overgrown). Very fittingly, the video is as epic as Higher, featuring numerous shots of sword fighting and martial arts all tied around an underdog storyline.
