London vocalist Sampha is known for his highly-recognisable silky smooth RnB voice that brilliantly compliments the minimalist electro tunes of SBTRKT. His ability to effortlessly jump into falsetto brings a sonically beautiful air to SBTRKT’s songs. 

Finally he is using his exceptional talent for some solo work! He recently announced an upcoming EP entitled Dual, which will be released on the 29th of July and has since dropped a single called Without. The EP will also feature a reworked version of Indecision, another catchy and enchanting track he collaborated with SBTRKT on around two years ago.

Without is a smooth, sultry and emotionally powerful track that really demonstrates Sampha’s incredible vocal ability which SBTRKT fans are well aware of, but also boasts exception production skills we haven’t seen from the London boy before. The song boasts the restrained chaos in its rhythm, which has been iconic in minimalist electronica over the past few years. The fractured synth and vocals jump around the track, making it irresistibly captivating and entrancing. 

The song oozes a kind of digital soul, with offbeat yet rhythmic percussion, hypnotising synths and cheeky twanging bass lines scattered throughout. Sampha’s vocals blend each of these elements together to create a smooth and impressive track akin to SBTRKT but with an added unique RnB flavour. 

Dual will be dropping at the end of the month, and I for one am definitely excited to see what this talented vocalist and producer has in store for us!
