In the buildup to the release of The Weeknd’s first official album, Kiss Land, Abel Tesfaye has released a new song, Belong to the World, with an accompanying video. The track features Abel’s distinctive emotive singing and apathetic subject matter, this time over an apparently impossible relationship. The Weeknd continues to play with his newfound Asian obsession in the video which features him in an Asian dystopian society obsessing over an enticing dancer. Belong to the World has sparked some controversy, however, as the song promintently features a sample from the experimental band Portishead’s song Machine Gun, which was allegedly used without the band’s approval.
