2012 was a good year for the hip-hop collective Black Hippy, seeing members Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar all releasing successful albums, albeit with the former’s being slightly eclipsed by Kendrick’s conceptually brilliant good kid m.A.A.d city. Nevertheless Black Hippy are definitely on the map now and by the sounds of Collard Greens, ScHoolboy isn’t shy about alerting his listeners to his new found success of his which he equates to his ability to be able to afford the best “greens”. Kendrick has a nice feature on the track, dropping a lot of his patented catchphrases from previous songs and ScHoolboy rides this up-tempo and spacious beat nicely. The song will be featured on Q’s upcoming album Oxymoron which should see a release before the year is out.
