Gold Pandas new single to drop, warming up for the release of his next project ‘Half of where you live’ will initially come across to many as somwhat discordant and confusing (or at least it did so for me) with an assortment of peculiarly spaced instrumentations and musical ideas that don’t quite seem as if they belong in the same song time frame as each other – something, quite contrary to the popular conceptions of the electronically contrived musical stylings of Gold Panda. Such initial conceptions of the track can be very misleading. Whilst the ‘We Work Nights’ might take its time to mature and grow into itself, it is definitely worth taking the musical ‘journey’ to hear the pieces of the puzzle metaphorically come into place – if there is a way of saying that without failing to sound too much like an over enlightened ‘douchebag’. In a similar vein to the Kaleidoscope-esque artwork, Gold Panda thrives on applying layers of lush electronic sounds and samples throughout his music to an undeniably hypnotic effect on those who take the time to listen. This is very much the case in his new single ‘We Work Nights’. Check it out below.
