The cult status that the English music producer Four Tet, real name Kieren Hebden, has reached is astounding, but not undeserved. This popularity is evident in the hype that surrounds him for not even dropping a new song, but releasing a demo cut of one of his already existing songs, with only one unheard sample. Granted the track ‘Unspoken’ is from one of his most highly celebrated albums, Rounds, with his other being 2010’s There is Love in You, the former of which is being reissued to celebrate its ten year anniversary. ‘Unspoken’, like all the tracks on Rounds, is made up of only samples, and the only difference between this new demo cut and the one which was heard on the original rounds is the sample from Tori Amos’ ‘Winter’ that Hebden was unable to get cleared for the original version of Rounds or for the reissue, so he kindly put it out for a free download on his soundcloud page. The piano from Amos’ song does add a little to the song, but whichever version you find yourself listening to will find you hearing to Hebden’s godlike ability to create truly beautiful and evocative music. Stream and download the new version below and grab the tenth anniversary edition of rounds now via Domino records.
