Danish Punks Vår Drop New Single

Most people who have heard of Vår would have heard about them through their member’s links to numerous other Danish punk bands, most notably lead singer Elias Bender Rønnenfelt’s other critically acclaimed band, Iceage. Vår distanced itself from this more classical punk sound, releasing the more electronically driven singles In Your Arms and The World Fell, but their new single Into Distance sees a return to a more instrument driven piece. The song features an intense and abrasive drum line which sounds similar to the drums of a marching band and the acoustic guitar seems to almost mimic this drum line, increasing the fervent nature of the song. This quite fast paced instrumentation is juxtaposed against the slower and more morose guitar strums and Elias’ typically apathetic and desperate vocals, and these contrasting elements climax into an uplifting horn section towards the end of the song. Vår’s debut album, No One Quite Dances Like My Brothers is out is due out May 14th via Sacred Bones.

Sounds like: Iceage, Holograms
