Frequent collaborators and great friends El-P and Killer Mike recently announced their first official collaboration release as Run the Jewels and accompanied this with a short clip on soundcloud entitled Banana Clipper. Today they dropped the first full length song from their project called Get It, and I advise any previous fans to do just that. The beat is a classic El-P, with a heavy synth driven foreground and an even heavier bass backdrop, resembling his work on his own album Cancer 4 Cure and Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music, which topped many hip hop heads albums of last year. The threatening nature of the beat is somewhat relieved at the refrains in the song seeing a high pitch altered vocal eagerly repeat the songs title. Jamie and Michael, as try refer to themselves on this track, exchange their normal aggressive and somewhat braggadocious rhymes but matching the threatening nature of the beat, with both throwing out lines such as “if you ‘spressing any objections you could get left in chalk.” While the song is nothing new from either artist, it just proves that if you find a groove that works you ought to stick with it. Look for their new album in June via Fools Gold Records which will be available for free. Check the track out for yourself below!
