NEW THUNDERCAT – HEARTBREAKS/SETBACKS

Rolling forward from the 2011 release of his fruitful debut LP ‘The Golden Age of Apocalypse’, the progressive jazz/rock fusion bass player and vocalist Stephen Bruner, better known as ‘Thundercat’, drops his new single. The track entitled ‘Heartbreaks/Setbacks is the first single be released from his forthcoming album ‘Apocalypse’ and follows Bruner’s distinctive style of mixing elements of modern pop music with that of his classical jazz and fretless bass playing style – which is, dare I say, akin to some of the progressive and radically innovate bass playing of the great Jaco Pastoruis.

Once again Thundercat teams up with veteran music producer ‘Flying Lotus’ to craft a somewhat pensive track, with Bruners vocal melodies reflecting on, discernibly, his inner contemplations on his experiences of heartbreaks and setbacks. Bruners distinctive progressive and technical playing style, particularly toward the latter end of the song is truly engrossing to listen to. The album is set for release on  July 9th on Brainfeeder. Check the track out for yourself below!
